A few years ago, a young man walked into my office at SALE-RITE ENTERPRISE looking for a job. Let us call him Mulenga. His CV was good — better than good, actually. He had the qualifications, he had done an attachment with a reputable company, and on paper he was exactly what we needed. But the moment he sat down for the interview, something changed. He looked at the floor. His voice dropped to almost a whisper. When I asked him to tell me about a time he solved a difficult problem, he froze, mumbled something about "not really remembering," and the interview never recovered.

I did not hire Mulenga that day, and I have thought about him many times since. Not because he lacked ability — he clearly had it — but because he lacked the confidence to show it. Somewhere between his classroom and that interview chair, Mulenga had learned to doubt himself so thoroughly that his own good qualities became invisible, even to him.

I tell you this story because I suspect some part of it is familiar to you. Perhaps you are not Mulenga exactly, but you know what it feels like to have something valuable inside you — an idea, a skill, a point of view worth hearing — and to watch it stay locked away because fear got there first. Fear of being laughed at. Fear of saying the wrong thing in a meeting. Fear of being told no. Fear of trying and failing in front of people who might remember it forever.

This book exists because that fear is solvable. Not with slogans, not by pretending to be someone you are not, but through specific, practical habits that you can build the same way you would buil
